CFL Football Pick: Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Toronto Argonauts
Date/TIme: Thursday, July 11, 7:30 p.m. (ET)
Television: TSN (Canada)
Pointspread: Toronto -2
Total Line: 53.5
Saskatchewan enters Week 3 of the 2013 CFL regular season as the only undefeated team in the league. After hammering Edmonton 39-18 in its season opener as a 2.5-point favorite on the road, it knocked-off Calgary at home last week 36-21 as a two-point home favorite. The total has gone OVER in both games and it has now gone OVER in six of its last seven contests.
This fast start has to come as a bit of a surprise after the Roughriders only managed to win eight games straight-up all last season. They closed-out 2012 with a costly 0-4-1 record against the spread in their final five games. Saskatchewan has gotten it done of both sides of the ball so far with the most points (75) scored and the fewest points allowed (39) in the CFL.
Toronto started defense of its 2012 Grey Cup title with a 39-34 opening day victory over Hamilton as a 3.5-point home favorite. Its six-game winning streak both SU and ATS dating back to late October of last season finally came to an end in Week 2. The Argonauts came up short on the road against British Columbia in a 24-16 loss as seven-point underdogs. The total stayed UNDER the 53-point line in that contest after going OVER the 56.5-point line in the season opener.
Quarterback Ricky Ray played a huge role in Toronto’s stunning run to a Grey Cup title last season and has picked-up where he has left off with 583 yards passing while completing a solid 71.2 percent of his throws. His favorite target so far has been wide receiver Chad Owens. He leads the CFL in receptions with 20 for a total of 206 yards. The Argonauts led the East Division in scoring with an average of 27.5 through their first two games.
Free CFL Pick
The road team in this matchup has won six of the last nine meetings both SU and ATS. While you hate to bet against this trend especially with a hot team coming to town, the free CFL pick for this matchup is Toronto minus the points in a game that should easily go OVER the total.
Toronto 34 Saskatchewan 29
