Sunday, Sept. 29, 1 p.m. (ET)
Pointspread: Seattle -2.5
Total Line: 41.5
Seattle comes into this inter-conference matchup as arguable the best team in the NFC after a 3-0 start both straight-up and against the spread that includes an impressive 29-3 beatdown of San Francisco as a three-point home favorite in Week 2. Last week the Seahawks covered a ridiculous 19.5-point spread as home favorites in a 45-17 romp over Jacksonville. The total stayed UNDER in their first two games but it easily went OVER the 39-point line against the Jaguars.
A shutdown defense has been a big part of Seattle’s strong start. Picking up from where it left off last season, this unit is ranked first in the league in points allowed; giving-up a total of just 27 points in its first three games. Russell Wilson has also kept things rolling after a stellar rookie campaign with 664 passing yards and six touchdowns while completing 64.4 percent of his throws. The Seahawks are also ranked near the top of the NFL in scoring with an average of 28.7 points a game.
The Texans started the season as prohibitive favorites to win another AFC South title, but last Sunday’s 30-9 loss to Baltimore as one-point road underdogs has raised some doubts about just how good this team really is. Houston needed a last second field goal to get past San Diego as a five-point road favorite and it needed overtime to get by Tennessee as a 7.5-point favorite at home for a 0-3 ATS start. The total went OVER against the Chargers and the Titans before staying UNDER in the game against the Ravens.
The numbers on offense look pretty good with both the passing game and the rushing attack ranked ninth in the NFL, but it has still struggled to find the end zone at times despite all of this production. Matt Schaub has thrown for 838 yards and six touchdowns, but he has also been picked off four times and sacked seven times. Andre Johnson leads the team in receiving with 258 yards on 25 receptions, but he remains questionable for Sunday with a bruised shin. This all adds up to a tall task getting past a team that is firing on all cylinders in every phase of the game.
This is a matchup between a team that is just pushing its opponents around and one that is winning with smoke and mirrors. While you never like to give points to the home team, in this case it is a no-brainer as Seattle keeps things rolling with another impressive win on the road.
