Pointspread: Seattle -2.5
Total Line: 43.5
Seattle is one of five teams to start the NFL season with a perfect 4-0 straight-up record, but it needed overtime to get past Houston last week to remain that way in a 23-20 victory as a one-point road favorite. It is also 4-0 against the spread and after the total in that game went OVER the 41-point line it has now been evenly split at 2-2. As expected the Seahawks’ defense has been rock solid and after finishing last season ranked first in the NFL in points allowed, it is currently ranked second; giving up an average of just 11.8 points a game.
The offense has been equally effective behind second-year quarterback Russell Wilson. He has thrown for 787 yards and six touchdowns while completing 61.5 percent of his attempts, but his biggest impact is still the ability to make plays when his team needs them the most. Marshawn Lynch is also off to a strong start with 308 rushing yards on 79 carries. The net result is an offense that is ranked 13th in the league in total yards and sixth in scoring with 27.2 points a game.
Some people had the Colts taking a step backwards this season after posting an impressive 11-5 record in 2012, but they have showed little sign of slowing down with a 3-1 SU (2-2 ATS) start. The biggest win this season was a 27-7 beatdown of San Francisco as 10.5-point road underdogs. Last Sunday they ran all over Jacksonville 37-3 as 9.5-point favorites on the road. The total has stayed UNDER in three of their four games.
Indianapolis is another team with a high-profile second-year quarterback at the helm. Andrew Luck has picked up where he left off with 915 yards passing and five touchdown throws. Reggie Wayne remains his primary target with 22 receptions for 300 yards and two scores. It also loves to run the ball with an average of 150.2 yards a game, which is ranked fourth in the league. The Colts match up well with Seattle on defense with a unit that is ranked eighth overall and fourth in average points allowed (12.8).
Free NFL Pick
This should be a great contest between two of the most balanced teams in the league. While the focus is bound to on Wilson and Luck, this game will be decided in the trenches and on the defensive side of the ball. I would lean towards the Colts playing at home but the free NFL pick is the UNDER on the total line.
Seattle vs. Indianapolis UNDER 43.5
