RHP Stephen Strasburg will make his much anticipated debut at the Major League level in MLB betting action on Tuesday night as the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Washington Nationals.
The man who is going to be tabbed with the job of battling the biggest crowd that Washington baseball has ever seen is going to be RHP Jeff Karstens. Karstens has only made four starts this year, but he does have ten appearances. Overall, he is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA with fairly average numbers across the board. The Nationals haven’t treated this righty nicely in his career, as Karstens has conceded nine earned runs in 8.2 innings of work against the Nats.
However, all eyes are going to be on the right hander that many think could be the next phenom at the MLB level. There will be more media covering this event and more fans in Washington Nationals Ballpark than this city sees for any game not played by the Redskins. And why not? Strasburg went 7-2 with a 1.30 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 55.1 innings of work at the minor league level. Don’t expect to see the righty pitch very deep into this game, as Washington is going to be keeping his pitch count relatively low and monitor his innings just as carefully. Expect to see plenty of pressure on the Nats’ bullpen, which has a 3.73 ERA this season.
We really hate to pick against the youngster in the first start in his career, especially against a man like Karstens that probably doesn’t even belong at the MLB level at this point in his career. However, this price is outrageous, especially on a pitcher that probably won’t see the sixth inning even if he could qualify for a win. This will be a dazzling debut regardless of the outcome, but as MLB betting fans, we’re out to make money, and the smart money is going to be on the Pirates on Tuesday night.
