Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns vs. Georgia State Panthers
Date/Time: March 16, 2014, 1:00 p.m. EST
Where: Lakefront Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana
The college basketball conference championship round of games will come to a close on Selection Sunday with some of the best conferences in the country crowning champions. One of the smaller conferences that will be anointing a winner and sending team to the 2014 NCAA Tournament will be the Sun Belt Conference. The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns and the Georgia State Panthers are the only two teams that remain and they will be the combatants that will be looking to go dancing during all of the Madness in March.
The two top seeds did not make it to the championship game because the Ragin’ Cajuns narrowly slipped by Western Kentucky in the semifinals winning by just one point. That one point was enough to get this team to the championship round. Elfrid Payton scored 23 points, including the go-ahead layup with 1:16 left, as third-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette found a way to get the victory and move along. Now they only have one mission left, to win the championship, but it won’t be easy.
Georgia State only had one loss on the season on their way to a 17-1 record. They cruised in the game leading up to this one. Ryan Harrow scored 20 points and R.J. Hunter had 16 as top-seeded Georgia State eased to a 72-45 win over fourth-seeded Arkansas State and now they look for a similar game against the Ragin’ Cajuns.
The latest college basketball betting trends for this tournament championship reveal that the Panthers have the edge when it comes to wagering angles in this big battle. The Panthers are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 5 games when going up against a team with a winning percentage above .600, 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games when going up against a team with a winning straight up record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games when they take to the court against a team with a winning percentage above .600, 9-21-1 ATS in their last 31 games following a straight up win and 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18 games when they play against a team with a winning straight up record.
The Georgia State Panthers are a very good team, but the last win was due to the fact that Arkansas State was tired from coming off a four overtime game. The Ragin’ Cajuns will have much more energy in this game, but in the end the victory will go to the Panthers.
