Any time you look at an NFL betting line, you know that there are always going to be trends that are on the side of both teams. Super Bowl XLV betting action is no different, as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers are both red hot right now and have a lot of trends going in their corners to support betting on them in the biggest game of the year. Check out the comprehensive list of all of the best Super Bowl trends that we have to note for the big game this year!
Not Much History in Super Bowl Showdown: These two teams might be the most storied franchises that the NFL has ever seen, but that doesn’t mean that they have seen each other all that many times on the gridiron. In fact, there have only been eight meetings since 1980. All-time, the series lead goes to the men in green and gold by the slight 18-14 edge. In the 1930s and early 1940s though, these teams met nine times, with the Packers going 9-0. They posted a 47-0 shutout in the first ever meeting in Green Bay, and they also had tremendous wins like a 42-10 victory in 1936 and a 54-7 win in 1941. However, since that point, Pittsburgh has really done a lot better for itself. In these eight meetings in the last 30 years, the Steelers own a 6-2 SU edge, but the two teams really could not be any closer from an ATS standpoint at 4-4 ATS each.
Super, Super Bowl Marks: The Packers have played in four Super Bowls in their history, and they have wins in Super Bowls I, II, and XXXI, and a loss in Super Bowl XXXII. They only went 0-1-1 ATS in those two most recent Super Bowls, but they blasted the Super Bowl odds against both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders, giving them an all-time Super Bowl mark of 3-1 SU and 2-1-1 ATS. The Steelers already have six Super Bowl rings, an all-time record in the NFL, and they are going to look to improve upon that as well. They won their last two Super Bowls with no problems, beating the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals. However, they only went 1-1 ATS in those two games. Prior to that in their run of dominance in the 1970s, the Steelers won Super Bowls IX, X, XIII, and XIV, and they went 3-1 ATS to show for those games. They did stick inside the number in Super Bowl XXX against the Dallas Cowboys in spite of the fact that they didn’t win the game. All told, Pittsburgh is 5-2 ATS and 6-1 SU all-time against the Super Bowl betting lines.
Green Bay Super Bowl Trends of Note: The Packers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall, all of which have come against teams with winning records. They’ve won five in a row as well SU. They’re 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 games following duels in which they held teams to two touchdowns or fewer. Green Bay is 8-3-1 ATS in its last 12 games played on field turf, but what we have to remember is that the games against the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings in division haven’t been all that challenging. It is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games as favorites, but only 2-5 ATS in its last seven as favorites in the postseason.
Pittsburgh Super Bowl Trends of Note: The Steelers have been particularly hot of late, going 4-0 SU and ATS in their last four overall to make it here to Arlington for the big game. They’ve got a great history in postseason duels of late, going 9-1 ATS over the course of their last 10, and that one ATS defeat was the Super Bowl XLII win over the Arizona Cardinals. The men in black and gold are also fantastic as underdogs, as they are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 games as pups, and 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 as dogs of three points or fewer.
