The best pitching matchup on Tuesday could be in Milwaukee as the Brewers and Cubs continue their battle at the top of the National League Central. The Cubs go with Carlos Zambrano while the Brewers counter with Ben Sheets.
The Chicago Cubs will be glad to get back to the friendly confines on Thursday night as they host the Florida Marlins. The Cubs just can’t win on the road but they rarely lose at home. Carlos Zambrano gets the start for Chicago on Thursday while Scott Olsen goes for Florida.

The Cubs had the best record in the National League in the first half of the season, mainly due to their 37-12 record at home. The big news out of Chicago on Tuesday was the Cubs getting Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics. He is expected to form a powerful one-two combination at the top of the Cubs pitching staff with Wednesday’s starter Carlos Zambrano. The Cubs sent pitcher Sean Gallagher, catcher Josh Donaldson, infielder Eric Patterson and outfielder Matt Murton to the A’s for Harden and pitcher Chad Gaudin
The battle of Chicago wraps up on Sunday as the Cubs host the White Sox. Neither team is treating this as a big series although the fans might be. “One thing about Sox fans, they show up and watch the game,” White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said, “I think it’s great. I think it’s fun. I think it’s good for the fans, good for everybody. Even if you try to avoid the circumstances, you can’t avoid the circumstances. But we’re in first place, they’re in first place. They’re playing great baseball.”
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs play the middle game of their three-game set on Tuesday night with Hiroki Kuroda facing Sean Gallagher. The Cubs took the opener on Monday 3-1 as Ryan Dempster held the Dodgers to only one run while Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez hit home runs. The Cubs snapped a two-game losing streak and are the only team in baseball to not lose three straight this year.
The Houston Astros return home after a very successful 7-3 road trip to take on the division leading Chicago Cubs. Lance Berkman has been tearing up the league and leading the Astros recently, hitting .545 during his 17-game hitting streak with 8 home runs and 21 RBIs. The Astros are 11-6 at home this season.
The Chicago Cubs and New York Mets open up a quick two game set on Monday in Chicago with Carlos Zambrano facing John Maine. Zambrano is 2-1 on the season with an ERA of 3.04 and is coming off a nice outing on Wednesday against Cincinnati when he allowed only two runs in seven innings. The Cubs are playing well having swept Pittsburgh over the weekend.
