The Lakers started the new NBA season on a strong note with a 116-103 victory over the rival Clippers as 9.5-point underdogs, but it has been a shaky ride ever since with three straight-up losses in their next four games. This past Tuesday they were hammered by Dallas 123-104 as nine-point underdogs on the road. The total went OVER the 213.5-point closing line in that game and it has now gone OVER in four of their first five games.
The Houston Rockets will try to avoid digging a 2-0 hole in their series with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night. Houston was dominated 120-91 by Oklahoma City in Game One. The Rockets shot only 36 percent, and they were never really in the game. Will this one be any closer or will the Thunder roll to another victory?

Houston has already clinched a spot in this season’s Western Conference playoffs, but a victory in its regular-season finale on Wednesday night would lock-up seventh-place in the standings as well as possibly send the Lakers packing for the year if Utah beats Memphis earlier in the night. The Rockets’ current form to pull off this feat has not been all that solid down the stretch with a 2-3 straight-up (1-4 against the spread) record in their last five games. The total has gone OVER in four of their last six games.
The Portland Trail Blazers can start making vacation plans. They have lost their last six games and will be missing the postseason for the second straight season.
This game features the 33-29 Rockets at the 35-27 Warriors. Two nights after beating the Raptors 125-118, Golden State (35-27) had its hands full with the lowly Kings before escaping with an 87-83 win Wednesday. Thompson scored a team-high 20, including the go-ahead 3 with 7.5 seconds to play for the Warriors, who were limited to 36.0 percent shooting — their worst mark in a win since February 2003.
Denver has now won seven of its last nine games straight-up after this past Sunday’s 121-118 overtime victory over Oklahoma City as a one-point underdog at home. Its overall record is 25-18 and it has gone a profitable 24-19 against the spread. Most of the Nuggets’ problems this season have come on the road where they are 9-15 SU but they are still an even 12-12 ATS. The total went well OVER the 208.5-point total line against the Thunder and it has gone OVER in seven of their last eight games.
Things just aren’t getting any better for the Los Angeles Lakers. Steve Nash’s return was supposed to be the catalyst for the team, but that hasn’t worked out. The latest breaking news is that both Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol are now out with injuries. The two big men had been struggling, but the Lakers can’t afford to be without these guys.
