The Indianapolis Colts can essentially lock up the AFC South title on Thursday night if they can figure out how to go on the road and beat the Tennessee Titans at LP Field in Nashville.
The Colts come off of their bye week with a chance to bury the defending AFC South champs while padding their two-game lead, so it is safe to call this a pivotal matchup in the division. Indianapolis has gone an impressive 5-2 in its first seven games including victories over Seattle, San Francisco and Denver as an underdog. It is 4-3 against the spread and the total has stayed UNDER in four of the seven games.
The Broncos have clearly established themselves as the cream of the crop in the NFL this season with a sterling 6-0 start both straight-up and against the spread. They are scoring an NFL-best 44.2 points a game and have outscored their opponents by a whopping 107 points. The total has gone OVER in all six games.
Indianapolis has picked-up where it left off after posting a surprising 11-5 record in 2012. It has won four of its first five games and already has impressive victories over San Francisco and Seattle on the resume. The Colts spanked the 49ers 27-7 in Week 3 as 10.5-point underdogs on the road and this past Sunday they knocked the Seahawks from the ranks of the unbeaten by a final score of 34-28 as three-point home underdogs. The total went OVER the 43.5-point line against Seattle after staying UNDER in three of their first four games.
It’s Monday night, and that means that there is just one more game with which to handicap on the NFL card. Seattle is one of five teams to start the NFL season with a perfect 4-0 straight-up record, but it needed overtime to get past Houston last week to remain that way in a 23-20 victory as a one-point road favorite. It is also 4-0 against the spread and after the total in that game went OVER the 41-point line it has now been evenly split at 2-2.
The Colts opened the new NFL season with a 21-17 win over Oakland but failed to cover as 11-point favorites at home. Last Sunday they came up short as one-point home favorites in a 24-20 loss to Miami to even their record at 1-1 straight-up. They will now have to go on the road as prohibitive underdogs in what should be a great test to see if Indianapolis is truly a playoff contender or a one hit wonder after last season’s 11-5 SU mark.
