The good news out of Los Angeles this week is that Kobe Bryant’s current contract has been extended two more seasons which should make him a Laker for life. Unfortunately that will not help for Tuesday night as he remains out of the lineup while rehabbing his foot. In his absence, his team has gone an even 7-7 straight-up in its first 14 games and a profitable 9-5 against the spread. The total has gone an even 7-7 as well but it has stayed UNDER in three of their last four games.
The Lakers started the new NBA season on a strong note with a 116-103 victory over the rival Clippers as 9.5-point underdogs, but it has been a shaky ride ever since with three straight-up losses in their next four games. This past Tuesday they were hammered by Dallas 123-104 as nine-point underdogs on the road. The total went OVER the 213.5-point closing line in that game and it has now gone OVER in four of their first five games.
The 2012/2013 NBA season marked the changing of the guard in the city of Los Angeles as the Clippers moved to the top of class ahead of the aging Lakers. Led by Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, the Clippers finished the regular season in first place in the Pacific Division at 56-26 while the Lakers stumbled to third at 45-37.
San Antonio is making it look easy in this best-of-seven opening round playoff series with three-straight victories by a combined 56 points including a lopsided 120-89 romp this past Friday as a six-point favorite on the road. The Spurs have covered against the spread in all three contests and the total has gone OVER in the last two.
The Los Angeles Lakers beat San Antonio 91-86 back on April 14 as 3.5-point home underdogs with Kobe Bryant out of the lineup, but they sorely missed his presence this past Sunday in a 91-79 drubbing as 8.5-point road underdogs in Game 1 of this best-of-seven opening round playoff matchup.
Two of the teams that were favored to win the Western Conference at the outset of the year are going to meet in the first round of the playoffs starting on Sunday afternoon, as NBA betting fans are looking forward to sinking their teeth into the clash between the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs.
Houston has already clinched a spot in this season’s Western Conference playoffs, but a victory in its regular-season finale on Wednesday night would lock-up seventh-place in the standings as well as possibly send the Lakers packing for the year if Utah beats Memphis earlier in the night. The Rockets’ current form to pull off this feat has not been all that solid down the stretch with a 2-3 straight-up (1-4 against the spread) record in their last five games. The total has gone OVER in four of their last six games.
The last few spots in the Western Conference playoffs are really the only ones up for grabs this late in the season, and two of the teams that are going to try to beat the NBA odds and get into the dance will meet on Tuesday night, as the Los Angeles Lakers host the Dallas Mavericks.

Over the past few weeks the Lakers have exhausted a great deal of energy to work themselves back in the playoff picture in the Western Conference with a 9-2 straight record in their last 11 games, but they will be severely tested to stay in that eighth and final spot after losing Kobe Bryant with an ankle injury in a tough 96-92 road loss to Atlanta as 3.5-point favorites this past Wednesday night.
