Chicago comes into this huge Central Division showdown a bit short-handed with Joakim Noah and Kirk Hinrick already out of the lineup and Carlos Boozer listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. If the Bulls are going to have shot at holding on to their slim lead over Indiana, they will need another big defensive effort from a team that is ranked third in the NBA in points allowed; giving-up an average of 90.6 points a game.
Oklahoma City is cruising along with the best record in the NBA. The Lakers were expected to be their top competition in the Western Conference, but it hasn’t turned out that way at all. Instead, the Lakers are 19-25 and they have the worst team chemistry in the NBA. They’ll get another chance to show they can play with the best in the NBA on Sunday afternoon when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Some have been expecting the Clippers to hit a tough patch this year, but they just keep winning. Chris Paul’s bruised kneecap is a little bit of a concern, but he should be back in the lineup soon. He is listed as doubtful for this game. The Phoenix Suns are now under Interim Coach Lindsay Hunter’s guidance. Can the Clippers keep pace near the top of the Western Conference standings or will the Suns pull off a surprise?
The New York Knicks are coming off two straight losses. Last night’s loss to the Pacers came as Carmelo Anthony was suspended. Anthony will be back for the Knicks home game against the Chicago Bulls Friday night on ESPN. The Bulls aren’t the same without Derrick Rose, but they are holding their own. Can they send the Knicks to their third straight loss?
Kobe Bryant’s comments after the Lakers loss to the 76ers this past weekend got a ton of publicity. Bryant was clearly fed up with the Lakers struggles, and he came right out and said this team is too old and isn’t putting forth enough effort. The Lakers are the fourth oldest team in the league, but it’s hard to believe that a team with this much talent can’t do any better than 15-16 through the first 31 games of the year.
Dallas will be coming off an extended Holiday break after getting blown-out 129-91 by San Antonio this past Sunday as an 11-point road underdog. It was the Mavericks third loss in a row and they are now 12-16 straight-up on the year. They are 2-4 against the spread in their last six games to fall to 13-15 ATS overall. The total has gone OVER in four of their last five outings.
The New York Knicks dropped their first game at home earlier this week when Carmelo Anthony was out of the lineup, but Anthony returned as the Knicks blasted the Nets on Wednesday night. New York moved to the top of the standings in the Eastern Conference with its 100-98 victory over Charlotte this past Wednesday night but could not cover as a 7.5-point home favorite. It is now 13-4 straight-up on the season and 11-6 against the spread. The total ended as a PUSH against the Bobcats but it had gone OVER in five of the Knicks previous seven games.
Dallas comes into this Western Conference matchup at 8-9 straight-up and 7-10 against the spread after rolling over Detroit 92-77 as a seven-point home favorite this past Saturday. It was just the second SU victory in their last six games as the Mavericks already find themselves five games in back of Memphis in the Southwest Division. The total has stayed UNDER in three of its last four games.
Houston brings a three-game winning streak into this matchup including a 117-101 victory over Toronto on Tuesday night as a six-point home favorite. The win evened its overall record to 7-7 straight-up and 7-6-1 against the spread. The total has gone OVER in six of its last eight games. The Rockets now have to go on the road where they are just 2-4 SU and 2-3-1 ATS.
