ESPN continues to have a lot of luck on Monday nights this season and that should be the case again this week as the Washington Redskins host the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Redskins have been one of the league’s surprises this year at 6-2 while the Steelers have looked solid at 5-2. The only losses for Pittsburgh came against the NFC East as they lost to Philadelphia in September and to the Giants last week. The problem for the Steelers in both of those games was protecting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He was sacked eight times by the Eagles and five times last week against New York.
The best matchup in Week 8 is definitely on FOX television late Sunday afternoon as the 5-1 Pittsburgh Steelers host the 5-1 New York Giants. The Giants are defending Super Bowl champs and have looked the part this season while the Steelers look to be one of the top teams in the AFC. Both quarterbacks, New York’s Eli Manning and Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger have led their teams to Super Bowl titles and are looking to do so again this season.
One of the best games on Sunday should be in Jacksonville as the Jaguars host the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jaguars have owned the Steelers lately, winning the last four meetings between the two teams including last year’s playoff game. “We have some recent history with those guys,” Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said this week. “They are a very good football team.”
The lead in the AFC North will be at stake on Monday night when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers come into the game banged up and their health doesn’t figure to improve against a very physical Ravens squad. The Steelers will be without running back Willie Parker in the game while quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is nursing a sore shoulder. Big Ben could be in for a long night against the NFL’s top ranked defense.
The marquee game on Sunday afternoon in the NFL has the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers. The battle of Pennsylvania should be an excellent one as the unbeaten Steelers face the 1-1 Eagles. Philadelphia looked good last week but couldn’t get enough defensive stops to get the win against Dallas while Pittsburgh just got by Cleveland. The Steelers have concerns over quarterback Ben Roethlisberger who has a sprained shoulder although “Big Ben” has been exceptional so far this season, ranking as the NFL’s highest rated passer through the first two weeks.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will try for their 10th straight win over the Cleveland Browns as the two teams meet on Sunday night. The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 55 wins each but Pittsburgh has owned the Browns of late. They have won 15 of the last 18 meetings, including the last nine. Cleveland will be looking to bounce back from a poor effort last week against Dallas. Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin does not believe Sunday’s game will be easy for his Steelers.
The Minnesota Vikings are expected to have quarterback Tarvaris Jackson under center on Saturday night as they host the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jackson sprained his knee last week against Baltimore but is expected to start on Saturday. Most of the starters for both teams will play into the third quarter.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills meet in preseason action on Thursday in Toronto. The Steelers won their preseason opener last week against Philadelphia 16-10 while the Bills lost to the Washington Redskins by a score of 17-14. The NFL will have a total of eight games in Toronto over the next five years. Five of those games will be regular season contests with the other three being preseason games.
The battle of Pennsylvania takes place on Friday night in NFL preseason action as the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Philadelphia Eagles. Since it is the first preseason game for both teams, some starters won’t play at all while others will only see limited action.
