The Florida Gators will look to continue their march to the National Championship game as they host the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday. Florida is ranked #3 in the country but if they win their remaining games this season and then the SEC Championship game against Alabama they will play in the BCS Championship game. Florida will be facing a South Carolina team on Saturday that has won six of their last seven.
The LSU Tigers will try and rebound from a bad loss last week at Florida but it may not be easy against a tough South Carolina team. The Gamecocks have won four straight and have the nation’s third ranked defense. That could mean a low scoring game on Saturday night. The Tigers had all kinds of problems last week against Florida but head coach Les Miles believes his team will come back strong this week.
Georgia is no longer the #1 ranked team in the nation, despite winning their first two games by a combined score of 101-38. USC jumped over Georgia in the polls but the Bulldogs could easily surpass them in upcoming weeks considering they play in the tougher SEC. Georgia opens up SEC play on Saturday at South Carolina.
South Carolina and Vanderbilt open up the SEC part of their schedules on Thursday as the Commodores host the Gamecocks on ESPN. Vanderbilt has had very little success in SEC openers in the past as they are just 4-21 in their last 25 conference openers.
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is not making any predictions about this year’s football team just yet. Last season the Gamecocks started 6-1 but collapsed down the stretch, losing their last five games and missing out on a bowl game. That has put the pressure squarely on Spurrier to produce this season. They open up the season with an interesting test as Tom O’Brien’s North Carolina State Wolfpack come to town.
