The Big 12 Powers struggled last week, specifically Nebraska who scraped by at home against South Dakota State, Oklahoma getting all they wanted from a tough Cincy team on the road, and Texas was beaten badly in all aspects of the game by UCLA, who really is not all that good. Chalk it up to looking ahead for Texas and OU who square off in the Red River War this week at the state fair in Dallas in the Cotton Bowl, but Nebraska never got off the bus.
The Big 12 gets the spotlight again on Saturday night as #2 Texas Tech hosts #8 Oklahoma State in a game televised on ABC. The Red Raiders defeated Texas last week and soared in the polls and now they are #2 in the BCS standings. They can’t afford a letdown though as a very talented Oklahoma State team comes to town.
The gauntlet continues for #1 Texas on Saturday as they face #6 Texas Tech. The Longhorns have had to face three teams ranked 11th or better the past three weeks and now must face another one on the road. Texas has proven their worth with wins over Oklahoma, Missouri and Oklahoma State and now must face a high-powered Red Raiders team on Saturday.
Texas Tech is off to their best start in more than 30 years but many people believe it is more due to their schedule than to their talent. The Red Raiders will get a chance to prove those people wrong, beginning on Saturday as they travel to face #19 Kansas. Texas Tech is ranked 8th in the country and after facing Kansas will play Texas, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. That is a gauntlet no team would want to face.
