The Sun Bowl pits one of the middling teams from the ACC up against one of the middling teams from the Pac-12, yet the UCLA Bruins are the heavy favorites over the Virginia Tech Hokies in El Paso.
Virginia Tech and Michigan State will meet in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on Friday night. Michigan State is the number one ranked team in the country. Virginia Tech is looking to find some direction. The Spartans haven’t been all that impressive in their last couple games, but they are capable of big things. Can the Hokies find a way to hang around in this one?
Virginia Tech’s football program hasn’t been living up to their normal standards over the past couple years. Frank Beamer’s team is coming off two disappointing losses in a row. Miami lost star running back Duke Johnson as well as their unbeaten season last weekend in Tallahassee. Which one of these teams will get back on track this Saturday night?
The Virginia Tech Hokies are coming off a triple overtime win over the Marshall Thundering Herd. It certainly wasn’t pretty, but the Hokies got the job done and moved to 3-1 on the season. Georgia Tech outlasted North Carolina 28-20 to move to 4-0 last weekend. Virginia Tech has won the last three meetings between these two teams, but the Yellow Jackets are favored in this one.
They competed last year for a national championship, and those at BetAnySports analyzing the college football odds on that one saw a one-sided affair to say the least. For the Alabama Crimson Tide, it is a scenario where they are hopeful of nailing down their third consecutive national championship. For the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the problem to be solved is how to move ahead without the quarterback who got them to the title game.
The Atlantic Coast Conference now has 14 teams. The newcomers are Pittsburgh and Syracuse. There is no runaway favorite in this league, but there are a couple teams who seem to be the best on paper.
The ACC is now broken up into two divisions- the Atlantic Division and the Coastal Division.
The Miami Hurricanes were finally getting a lot of publicity, and they were almost the number one ranked team. Last time out the Hurricanes hit a major speed bump when they lost 80-65 at Wake Forest. Miami was favored by seven in that one, but they trailed virtually the entire game. Virginia Tech won for the first time in ten games last time out. The Hokies will have a much tougher assignment tomorrow night in Miami.
The clubs that could be in the ACC Championship Game for the second time in the last three years will meet in Blacksburg on ESPN’s Thursday Night Football betting festivities, when the Florida State Seminoles travel to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
About the only solace the fans of the Seminoles can take right now is that they probably weren’t going to be in the National Championship Game regardless of whether they beat the NC State Wolfpack or not.
