Betus.com betting line – Houston -4, 48 ½ O/U

The Tennessee Titans will take the road to meet-up with the Houston Texans for a Monday Night Football showdown as the Texans try to keep some early playoff hopes alive at 5-4 on the season. The Titans were among one of the most disappointing teams of the season starting the year at 0-6. However, the Titans found some new confidence in QB Vince Young and are 3-0 since he became starter. Tennessee now will try to keep the momentum rolling as they take the big stage this Monday night.

One of the big reasons the Texans will enter as home favorites is because they will put their strong passing game up against one of the worse pass defenses in the NFL. The Texans rank 3rd in pass offense averaging 284 yards per game and the Titans are the 2nd worse pass defense allowing 270 yards per game in the air. Texans QB Matt Schaub is completing 68% passing with 17 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Houston has not had much success in the running game behind Steve Slayton so they normally rely on the arm of Schaub and some solid wide outs.

WR Andre Johnson ranks 3rd individually in the NFL with 800 total receiving yards and is averaging 15 yards per catch. Tight end Owen Daniels was also giving a lot of help in the passing game, but a knee injury has him out for the year. The guy trying to pick up the slack now is WR Kevin Walter who is beginning to be more involved in the offense. If the Texans are to stop the Titans momentum of recent weeks, they will have to get the ball to Johnson and allow Schaub to take advantage of a vulnerable secondary.

On the other side of the field, the Titans will come at the Houston defense through a ground attack led by the NFL’s leading rusher in running back Chris Johnson. Johnson has racked up 1091 yards in his first 9 games and is on track to flirt with the 2,000 yard plateau. The return of Vince Young may not be the real difference considering Johnson has had his biggest performances of the season in the last 3 weeks averaging 165 yards through that stretch. However, Young has been pretty solid during his start behind center completing 70% of his passes with 2 touchdowns and just 1 interception. Young at least gives the threat of a passing arm which is something that Kerry Collins was not doing and that has really given the offense some power. If the defense can step up and play better, the offense should be able to hold their own. Expect Johnson to get around 20-25 carries and the Titans to try to keep the Houston offense off the field.
