The Staples Center in Los Angeles will be booming with noise on Wednesday night when the Oklahoma City come to town to take on the LA Clippers. The game will be broadcast on ESPN starting at 10:30 Wednesday night.
The Thunder enter this marquee matchup with a 5-1 record on the season after having defeated the Washington Wizards 106-105 in OT Sunday night. After a disappointing loss to the Timberwolves on November 1, the Thunder have gone on a four game winning streak while averaging nearly 109 points per game. Durant continues to light up the box score with 30.2 points per game, 7.3 rebounds and more than 4 assists. Despite being 5-1, the Thunder have yet to play a complete game all season because they are just now getting back into the groove of playing with their All Star PG Russell Westbrook. After suffering a season-ending knee injury in last year’s playoffs, Westbrook is just now beginning to round back into form. It will be interesting to see whether the young bench of the Thunder including SG Jeremy Lamb and C Steven Adams can continue to have an impact on the game against the Clippers.
Considered by many to be one of the most complete games in the league, the Clippers have struggled out of the gate early this NBA season and have a disappointing 4-3 record. The Clippers are leading the league in offense with 110 points per game; however, defense and rebounding continue to hold the team back. The Clippers have been marred by inconsistent play and have already suffered two losses against less than formidable opponents in the Lakes and Magic. However, as the team becomes adjusted to new coach Doc Rivers’ playbook expect the Chris Paul and Blake Griffin led Clippers to become one of the best in the NBA.
The Thunder enter the game as the favorite; however, the Clippers match up well at all five positions. Expect the game to come down to the play of each team’s bench with the Clippers having a slight advantage because of their veteran leadership. With both teams featuring a high paced offense, fans should expect to see a score well into the 100s for both opponents.
