Toledo Rockets at Central Michigan Chippewas Preview
NCAA Football Betting Preview
Toledo Rockets (4-5) at Central Michigan (7-2)
Wednesday November 11th, 8:00PM Eastern
Betus.com betting line – Central Michigan -15.5
The Toledo Rockets have been able to score a lot of points this year averaging around 30 points per game on the season, but the Rockets have also not been able to stop any teams from scoring which has led to an inconsistent season. The Rockets have dropped 3 of the last 4 games and things are to get tougher when they travel to tangle with Central Michigan this Wednesday night on Veterans Day. The Chippewas were beaten up by Boston College last week 31-10, but they have had an extremely solid year in MAC Conference play. Central Michigan is a perfect 5-0 in conference play and they have also won the last 4 straight over the Rockets. The Chippewas will be rather sizeable 15.5 favorites in the contest, but they just barely escaped Toledo last year 24-23.
Central Michigan has not been extremely overpowering this season, but they have handled business for the most part. The main reason the Chippewas has seen success this season is their man behind center in quarterback Dan LeFevour. LeFevour is a dual threat style quarterback that can beat you in a number of ways. LeFevour leads the Chippewas with 548 rushing yards and 9 total touchdowns on the ground. However, the ground game is not the strength of the team as LeFevour can be much more dangerous with his arm.
The senior is completing 69% passing with 1,848 yards and 16 touchdowns. Those numbers have been reached due to some big help from some veteran wide receivers. Junior Antonio Brown leads the team with 56 catches for 605 yards and senior Bryan Anderson has posted 501 yards. The Toledo pass defense has been rather horrible this season allowing 247 yards per game. The Rockets have a good offense as well, but if LeFevour gets hot then the Chippewas could put up a ton of points.
The Rockets defense will be the unit under the microscope. Even with an effective offense, the defense has really held the team back surrendering 38 points per game on the season. The Rockets must be able to either play better on defense or simply force some turnovers to keep their offense on the field. As far as the offense, they can definitely contend. Led by a group of stellar wide receivers, the Rockets offense is explosive. Freshman Eric Page leads the conference with 65 catches and has racked up over 900 yards and 7 scores in just his first season in the college ranks.
Senior wide out Stephen Williams has been equally effective with 60 grabs for 884 yards and 5 scores on the season. Both wide outs are averaging 14 yards per reception and they will attempt to foil a vulnerable Central Michigan secondary. The guy throwing the football to these guys will be QB Aaron Opelt. Opelt is completing 60% on the year with 15 touchdowns and 6 picks. Opelt’s main goal this Wednesday night will be to keep the mistakes limited and keep the ball in the hands of the Rockets’ playmakers. Another factor that Toledo does have going for them, is running back DaJuane Collins gives the team some balance on the ground. Collins has 733 yards and 8 scores through the first 9 games and he will be a guy that would really benefit if the passing game could make an early presence before sneaking a run by the defense.
Pick – Tons of points and Toledo keeps it close
