NCAA Football – Week 12

First place in the MAC West and a likely spot in the MAC Championship Game will be handed out on Wednesday night in college football betting action, as the Northern Illinois Huskies host the Toledo Rockets.

The Rockets are clearly in some trouble after losing to the Ball State Cardinals last week at the Glass Bowl in surprising fashion. Toledo has had some major offensive problems all of a sudden, as the team has put up just 29 points or fewer in three straight games with QB Terrance Owens really struggling. The junior quarterback has thrown for 2,416 yards and 14 TDs this year, but he has passed for just a total of 512 yards with two TDs in the last three games. Then man that isn’t slowing down though, is RB David Fluellen. The rusher in third in the nation on the ground with 1,377 yards and 12 TDs, and he has a great shot to ultimately win the rushing title this year if this game is won. That would give the Rockets another game to play, whereas RB Stefphon Jefferson and RB Ka’Deem Carey won’t get that chance. This defense has been shoddy as well though, and that’s bad news going against one of the most dynamic offenses that the country has to offer.

NIU has a thin chance to still make it to the BCS this year, but it is obviously going to require winning out for that to be the case. The team is probably still kicking itself for that 18-17 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes at the start of the year, knowing that that is probably all that separates the team from a massive, massive payday. When you talk about the Huskies, you have to talk about QB Jordan Lynch. Lynch is one of the top rushers in the nation with 1,342 yards and 16 TDs, and he also has 2,175 passing yards. There is a lot of talk that Lynch could be a Heisman Trophy finalist this year, and if that turns out to be the case, it might ultimately be the best year that the school has ever had. The Huskies haven’t just put up big time points, though. Their defense ranks 45th in the nation in total ‘D’, and that’s a huge part of the reason why this team has covered six games in a row.

Prediction:

Toledo is a good enough team to come on the road, and this is a heck of a lot of points to be giving. The Rockets could pull off the upset in yet another wild game in the MAC over the course of the end of the season. Toledo 41 – Northern Illinois 30
