The Blue Jays have Monday off but they will be busy come Tuesday with a double-header against New York as part of a make-up game. Game 1 is scheduled for a 1:05 start at Yankee Stadium with this matchup set for Tuesday night. Toronto comes into this four-game series against its AL East rivals fresh-off divisional series against Boston and Tampa Bay last week. They took two of three from the Red Sox at home, but dropped two of three to the Rays on the road. Toronto is now 57-67 overall and 26-35 on the road.
It is little wonder that the total has stayed UNDER in six of the Blue Jays last seven games after scoring a total of 21 runs during this stretch. They are still ranked fifth in the AL in scoring with an average of 4.5 runs a game. Their downfall this season has been a pitching staff that is ranked 13th in the league with a 4.37 team ERA. Mark Buehrie is expected to get the start in Game 2 on Tuesday night. The left-hander is 9-7 this season with a 4.29 ERA.
New York continues to keep its playoff hopes alive with a 7-3 record in its last 10 games. It closed the gap with Boston in the division to 7.5 games by taking two of three from its bitter rival this past weekend at Fenway Park. The Yankees are 64-59 overall and they return home for this series where they are 30-32 this year. The total has gone OVER in seven of their last nine games.
This lineup has been churning out the runs over the past week or so. Other than a 6-1 loss to the Red Sox last Saturday, it has averaged a total of 9.6 runs in its previous five games. The Yankees are scoring an average of four runs a game this season which is ranked 11th in the AL. While they have yet to name a starter for Tuesday’s second game, look for Phil Hughes to possibly get the start. The right-hander has struggled to a 4-12 record this season and has an overall ERA of 4.97.

The Blue Jays are riding out the string in what has been an extremely disappointing season while New York brings some solid momentum into this series. Look for the Yankees to complete the Tuesday two-game sweep as they follow-up a win in the afternoon with another solid victory at night.
New York 6 Toronto 3
