Football Pick: UCLA Bruins vs Nebraska Cornhuskers
Saturday, Sept 14, 3:30 p.m. (ET)
Pointspread: Nebraska -4.5
Total Line: 69
The UCLA Bruins will try and continue their climb up the rankings; moving to No. 16 in the latest AP poll after starting the season ranked No. 21. The Bruins opened their season with a 58-20 rout of Nevada as 20.5-point home favorites on Aug. 31. The total went OVER the 67.5-point line in that game. UCLA will come into this matchup well rested after building an early bye week into the schedule.
Brett Hundley threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns in UCLA’s win over the Wolfpack while adding another 63 yards and two touchdowns with his legs. The running game also received a shot in the arm with Jordan James rushing for 155 yards on 21 carries. Shaquelle Evans was the team’s leading receiver with six catches for 81 yards and a score. Look for a heavy dose of this trio on Saturday as the Bruins try and use some big plays to build an early lead.
Nebraska is off to a 2-0 straight-up start (1-1 against the spread), but its stock in the polls took a hit after struggling to get by Wyoming 37-34 in its season opener as a 31-point home favorite. The Cornhuskers looked more themselves this past Saturday with a 56-13 rout of Southern Miss as 28-point favorites at home. The total went OVER in both of these games and it has now gone OVER in their last four outings. The net result from the two games is a No. 23 ranking in the latest AP poll after starting the season ranked No. 18.
The one thing that the Cornhuskers have done really well this season is run the ball. While the offense is only averaging 161.5 passing yards a game it has more than doubled that up on the ground with an average of 330 yards a game. Ameer Abdullah has already rushed for 228 yards with Terrell Newby adding another 136 yards on 23 carries. Taylor Martinez has 299 yards passing on 32 completions with six of the catches going for scores. With this kind of firepower on offense, this game could turn into a shootout from the opening kickoff.

Both teams have already demonstrated the ability to move the ball on the ground, but the Bruins appear to have the edge with a more potent passing game. While the top play in this contest could actually be on the OVER, stick with UCLA to stun the Cornhuskers on the road with a SU win in a wild one.
