The main event is Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida (-180) against challenger Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua. These two met for the UFC light-heavyweight belt on Oct. 24 with Machida getting a controversial decision.
Rua connected on many kicks to Machida’s legs. However, the judges felt Machida connected on more head and body shots, especially during the first three rounds, and gave the champion the nod. Many MMA experts disagreed with the decision, which makes this rematch even more interesting.
Also on Saturday, heavyweight Kimbo Slice, the former internet sensation, tries to lose his brawler reputation and be known as a legitimate UFC Fighter. Matt Mitrione is a former NFL player and cast member on Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter. He wants to avoid Slice’s punches and get him on his back. This bout has Even odds.
Middleweight Patrick Cote is on the comeback trail after last fighting Anderson Silva in October, 2008. Cote took the champion into the third round, but suffered a major knee injury while throwing a kick. Cote is a small underdog against American Alan Belcher (-135), but he will be a fan favorite as a Quebec native.
Welterweight Josh Koscheck (-215) is a former college wrestler who is engaging in a war of words with British MMA artist Paul Daley. Koscheck has won his last two fights and Daley his last four. It’s a great opportunity for the winner to move up the ranks, with Koscheck the -240 favorite.
