A Big Ten match-up will get college basketball betting started on Sunday when the Michigan Wolverines play host to the Wisconsin Badgers at 1:00 ET inside the Crisler Center on CBS.
The Badgers are having an outstanding year and come into this game winners in their L/3 contests. Wisconsin handled the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday in a 78-70 win on its home floor. Senior G Ben Brust led the way with 20 points and six rebounds in the win. Brust is one of the leading scorers on this team averaging 13.2 points per game. Junior F Frank Kaminsky had 17 points against the Golden Gophers, scoring well above his 12.5 per game average. The Badgers got a huge win last Sunday when they defeated the No.9 Michigan State Spartans 60-58 at Kohl Center. Wisconsin is 4-1 SU when it plays against ranked opponents this season and it has posted a 4-3 ATS record on the road thus far. This game is very important for the Badgers to win as they try to catch the Wolverines in the Big Ten standings. After starting the season 16-0 SU, Wisconsin suffered three straight conference losses including a 77-70 setback to Michigan back on January 18th. That game was considered an upset at the time as the Badgers were ranked No. 3 and the Wolverines were unranked.
The Wolverines have put the shoe on the other foot since the last time they saw the Badgers as they come in ranked No. 15 in the country with a 10-2 SU record inside of Big Ten play. Michigan defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes on Tuesday by a score of 70-60 at Value City Arena in Columbus. Sophomore G Nik Stauskas led the scoring putting up 15 points in the win. Stauskas averages 16.9 points to go with 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Another big contributor for Michigan was G Derrick Walton Jr. who had a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in a great all-around game for the freshman. The Wolverines are 10-1 SU and 7-2 ATS when playing in front of their home fans this season. No conference opponent has defeated Michigan as home as it is 5-0 SU in those games with a 16.5 point average margin of victory. The Wolverines are currently tied atop the Big Ten standings with Michigan State so it seems every game will be a must-win from here on out as they try to secure the top spot in the conference tournament.
Michigan is going to need big games out of Stauskas and Walton to get its offense going to put this scrappy group from Wisconsin away early. The Wolverines will definitely find out in this game if they belong among the Top 10 teams in the country. We expect to see them take control early in this game send Wisconsin back to Madison with a loss that will take them out of regular season conference championship contention. Michigan 71 – Wisconsin 62
