World Series Game 3 Picks: San Francisco Giants vs. Texas Rangers Preview

San Francisco Giants
(2-0)

Texas Rangers
(0-2)

The Fall Classic is starting to get a tad out of hand for the Texas Rangers, and they need to rebound in a big way in Game 3 in World Series betting action against the San Francisco Giants in the first ever World Series encounter played in Arlington.

The first two games of this season have been totally opposite of one another. The Rangers put a touchdown on the board in the first game of the Fall Classic, but thanks to a very unpredictable blow up by LHP Cliff Lee, they were dropped 11-7.

Game 2 was a lot more of a pitcher’s duel, as there was just no answer for RHP Matt Cain. Cain continued his scoreless streak in the postseason by putting donuts on the board for 7.2 innings on Thursday night. The Rangers went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and never stood a chance at breaking onto the scoreboard with that type of production. Another implosion by the bullpen in the eighth inning sealed the deal. The Giants captured both games in San Fran thanks to a 9-0 win on Thursday.

If the Giants are going to take a commanding 3-0 lead in this series, LHP Jonathan Sanchez is going to have to pitch well. Sanchez came out of the blocks like a house of fire in the playoffs, allowing just one run in 7.1 innings of work against the Atlanta Braves. There was some confidence brewing about the southpaw after that start, and manager Bruce Bochy elected to move him into the No. 2 hole for the NLCS. The move backfired. Not only did Sanchez get the loss in that second game after allowing three runs in six innings, but he only lasted two innings in his second start, allowing three hits and two walks.

The Rangers need a huge pick me up right now, but they have been failing for RHP Colby Lewis all season long. Lewis was the one starting pitcher that really didn’t get a heck of a lot of help from the rest of the team this year, as he only went 12-13 in spite of the fact that he had a rock solid 3.72 ERA. Lewis did earn a pair of wins in the ALCS, pitching 13.2 innings of work against the best lineup in baseball and allowing just nine hits and three runs. Lewis only has one scoreless inning of relief pitched in his career against the Giants.

Here we go again. We’ve lived with the Giants, and we’re going to die with the Giants. Though it hasn’t all been because of the offense, San Fran has finally busted out and dropped 20 runs on the board in the first two games of the series. Just getting three or four should be enough to essentially put the Rangers down for good and move the team within one step of a world championship.
