World Series Pick: St. Louis Cardinals @ Texas Rangers Game 3
The scene for World Series betting action heads to Arlington for Games 3, 4, and 5, and if the Texas Rangers can hold home field advantage against the St. Louis Cardinals, they win the World Series. Check out our Game 3 MLB picks for Saturday night.
It’s going to be really, really tough for the Redbirds to get past losing Game 2. They had a 1-0 lead in the ninth inning after a truly remarkably pitched game by Jaime Garcia, but they coughed it up. Albert Pujols ended up committing the error on the play which allowed the game winning run to score, and he dipped out of the clubhouse before reporters were there to question him about it. Guys like Allen Craig and John Jay had to deal with the media blitz instead. Craig has been a true hero in this series, accounting for a pair of pinch hit RBI base hits in this series. Now, it’s up to Kyle Lohse to give St. Louis back the lead in this series. Lohse has been awful in the playoffs, allowing nine runs in just 9.2 innings of work. He has given up a pair of homers and only has seven strikeouts, and he has also conceded 13 hits. Needless to say, this isn’t good for a man who overachieved this season at 14-8 with a 3.39 ERA.
If the Cardinals are down in the dumps, the Rangers are floating on Cloud Nine. The job isn’t nearly done yet, though, as this series is still only tied even though it feels like Texas had the major breakthrough. The pitching has been absolutely fantastic, allowing just four total runs in two games, but the bottom line is that the offense has been terrible. Two runs in each of the first two games hasn’t exactly been stellar, nor has the way that those runs have crossed the plate. A two run homer by Mike Napoli is really the only major hit of this entire series on either side, and the two runs that were scored in the ninth inning on Thursday came from small ball, including a stolen base and a pair of sacrifice flies. Needless to say, that won’t cut it in Arlington in all likelihood, especially with Matt Harrison on the mound. Harrison has had two very similar looking games, allowing two runs in five innings in both of his appearances here in the playoffs. Still, the bullpen has been taxed in the first two games of this series, and Manager Ron Washington needs to manage Harrison and his pen properly to make sure that the Rangers can take the edge in this series.
St. Louis Cardinals @ Texas Rangers Pick: We know that this is a big time bit of chalk to lay, but we tend to think that just one off day isn’t going to get the Cardinals going again. They’re going to need some bounce on their side to get back in this series, and we don’t think that that break is coming on Saturday. Expect this to be the most lopsided game of this series in favor of the hosts.
