The St. Louis Cardinals have already won four major road games in the postseason. Now, they can take a 3-1 lead in the World Series and move within one step of a championship on Sunday night when they engage in MLB betting action in Game 4 of the Fall Classic against the Texas Rangers.
So much for all of that hype about Albert Pujols being out of leadership form. Pujols was blasted as a man who was supposedly a leader of a team after watching him get out of the Dodge after making an error that cost the team Game 2. No one is asking questions about his leadership anymore. All he did was have five base hits, score five runs, knock in six runs, and oh yeah, blasted three homers. Wow. This is the third time in the postseason that the Cardinals have scored 10 or more runs on the road, something that hardly anyone can say in baseball postseason history. Now, it’s up to Edwin Jackson to get the job done and to take the 3-1 series lead. Jackson hasn’t been great in these playoffs. as he has only pitched a total of 12.1 innings of work in his three starts, and his two outings on the road against the Brew Crew were in rather terrible. Of course, those six runs allowed in 6.1 innings of work didn’t look so bad when the team scored a dozen runs in both games!
And now, the Rangers have themselves a heck of a lot to do. Their bullpen was absolutely ravished yesterday, and now, there is going to be just one more off day — if the team survives to last until Game 6. It’s a shame that one of the best offenses in baseball has really largely failed. It’s ironic that the team was able to come up with just two runs in total in the first 17 innings of this series, and since that point, it has scored nine runs in 10 innings. And yet, there is only one win to show for all of that work. Derek Holland has led his team to 22 wins this year, and he is going to have to get the job done to knot this series up going into Game 5 on Monday night. The good news is that he has gotten 6.7 runs of support per game this year, including in the playoffs. Of course, his 4.04 ERA and 1.38 WHIP just aren’t numbers that are that good, and if that remains the case, he is going to be hard pressed to pitch the number of innings that Manager Ron Washington really needs him to.
St. Louis Cardinals @ Texas Rangers Pick: We were stunned that Texas was beaten last night, but we are going to go back to the well again in this one. This isn’t a series that is anywhere near over yet, and just as we figured that neither team would ever have more than a one game lead at any point, save until perhaps Game 6, we think that that will remain the case on Sunday.
