The Baltimore Orioles are looking for a huge sweep on Sunday Night Baseball betting action this weekend, as they’ll wrap up the week by taking on the New York Yankees at Camden Yards.
Perhaps this series in Baltimore is going to prove to be the beginning of the end for the Yankees. They have now dropped four games in a row at Camden Yards dating back to May, and they have four straight losses dating back to the middle of the week series against the Texas Rangers. New York is just 5-12 in its last 17 games, and it has a real chance to fall into the pit of the AL East very soon. Remember that after four games at Target Field against the Minnesota Twins, there are three more coming against these Orioles. RHP Hiroki Kuroda will be pitching on Sunday, and he has arguably been the best pitcher for the Bronx Bombers this year. The righty has a 2.77 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. He’s also on a clip to throw just over 200 innings. However, Kuroda is only 7-5, and he has led the team to just a 9-7 record on the season, including getting beaten once by these Orioles.
It’s all turning up rosy for the O’s right now. 1B Chris Davis smashed not just one, but two home runs on Saturday, giving him a major league leading 30 bombs for the campaign. He also had five RBIs on the game, giving him 27 in his last 17 games. That’s the type of offensive production that Baltimore is capable of for sure, and it is part of the reason why Sunday’s pitcher, RHP Chris Tillman, has a 9-2 record over the course of his first 16 starts of the year. Last season, Tillman came up from the minors on the Fourth of July, and he nearly pitched a complete game against the Seattle Mariners. Since then, he has rolled off a whopping 18 wins against just five losses in spite of the fact that his splits have always been suspect. However, this season’s 3.72 ERA feels just about right. The question that remains is whether a 3.72 ERA should really be translating into a team record of 12-4 in 16 outings for Tillman thus far on the season.
All he does is win. Tillman has a ton of victories over the course of the last calendar year, and he is playing in front of a team that has a whole heck of a lot of confidence right now. Between the way that Davis is smashing the ball and the way that Tillman is pitching, it’s all turning up aces for the O’s. They’ll get the ‘W’ on Sunday.
